There are events that people attend. And then there are moments they remember. The Cartier Affair was never intended to be simply a luncheon or a visit to one of Australia’s most anticipated exhibitions. It was created as an invitation – to pause, to reconnect with culture, to meet remarkable women, and to celebrate the beauty of gathering together.
On a winter Sunday in Melbourne, women travelled from Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland, with some flying interstate especially for the occasion. Their destination was the National Gallery of Victoria, where one of the world’s most celebrated luxury maisons had become the backdrop for something equally meaningful: genuine human connection.
In an increasingly digital world, where friendships are often measured by followers and conversations happen through screens, there is something profoundly refreshing about sharing a table, introducing yourself to someone new and discovering just how much we have in common.
That is what The Cartier Affair was truly about.
A House That Redefined Luxury
Long before Cartier became synonymous with royalty, glamour and timeless elegance, it was a family workshop in Paris founded in 1847 by Louis-François Cartier.
Over nearly two centuries, the Maison has become one of the world’s most admired jewellers, creating extraordinary pieces worn by queens, princesses, artists, visionaries and cultural icons.
The exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria offered guests a rare opportunity to step inside that remarkable history.
Every necklace.
Every tiara.
Every watch.
Every gemstone.
Each masterpiece reflected thousands of hours of craftsmanship, imagination and meticulous attention to detail. Before exploring the exhibition, guests gathered at the elegant Garden Restaurant at the National Gallery of Victoria, where exceptional hospitality, beautiful surroundings and thoughtful cuisine created the perfect setting for conversation.
